I was training so well for the Rheinquelle Trail, my main goal this year. The long distance, 42 kilometers with 3000 altimeters. I had been training with a coach since August 2021. This would be my moment.
Until 4 weeks ago. 2 Stripes on the Covid-19 self-test. Shit. Not now. Sure, nobody wants to get sick, but you definitely don't want to get sick a few weeks before your big running event!
Well, I couldn't change it. All I could do was do the best I could to make the most of it. Peace. vitamins. Don't build up too quickly. Actually, I kind of went straight into my taper (rest period before the race). Did a few small runs in the past few weeks, a few a bit faster…
And now, this Saturday it's time. Then I'll start. But not at the marathon distance. Couldn't I do it now? Yes, I was well trained. The training does not depend on the last few weeks. But is it wise?
My answer to that was: no. Nothing depends on it. I don't assume I'll end up on the podium, not even without Corona. I don't make my money with it. I do it for fun. And I think by participating in a shorter distance, I can have more fun on Saturday. And that is the most important to me!
So Saturday I'm going to enjoy the 18 kilometers with 1200 vertical meters during the Rheinquelletrail! I'm excited!
